The Mission Accomplished @ day 21!

A visit to St Nicholas’ Home, PENANG

30th June 2009: We (Ah Seng, Ricky and I) were honoured to be invited by St Nicholas’ Home, an event organised by the National Council for the Blind, Malaysia (NCBM).

The reception we received were overwhelming and grand, something that we just didn’t expect. There’s nothing more that one can ask for!. Mr Ooi Chee Khoon (St. Nicholas’ Home Executive Director), Rev Andrew Phang (Home Chairman), Mr Ivan Ho (NCBM Executive Director) and Mr Moses Choo (NCBM Assistant Executive Director) among others gave us a very warm welcome. Then we were greeted by a ’Kompang’ group (a traditional Malay music instrument) at the entrance, and followed by the Lion dance performance. By the way, both performances were conducted by the blind and visually impaired persons.

As we walked deeper into the driveway area, we were greeted by more and more people lining up on both side of the road. The first group were the elderly persons on the wheel chairs then followed by persons with the walking sticks. It was a very special and memorable moment for all of us.

Well, later we understood that the Lion Dance group was formed only the past 2 weeks, specially for this occasion and may now be an association permanent event, with enough sponsorship.

Also, on this auspicious day was the birthday of Mr Ooi (St. Nicholas’ Home Executive Director). As arranged by NCBM, the trishawman team has specially delivered him a birthday cake. It was a happy moment for everyone present there.

Then all of us proceeded to the meeting hall where Mr Ooi then gave us a speech and followed by me. All of us sang him a birthday song before we had a high tea snack / cake specially prepared by the blind persons from the centre

The event ended with us getting a 90 mins Full Body Massage in the SNH Wellness Centre. This refresh and rejuvenate centre is run by St Nicholas’ Home, a non-profit organisation founded in 1926, provides care, education and training for persons with visual impairment throughout Malaysia.
