McD's drive thru: step-by-step guide

I did my training in the town area yesterday. I invited my neighbours (also my good mates), Reza and Sumeet to join me in the ride. Sumesh (Sumeet's brother) was sick and therefore he couldn't join us.  We left our homes at 6:30 AM and headed straight into Jalan Munshi Abdullah.

I took the opportunity to go around town and took some photographs of places of intetest, which I haven't covered yet for my photo gallery. The street was very quiet and it's normal for a Sunday morning. Both Reza and Sumeet really had a good time.

Then, they suggested to have our breakfast in Mc Donald's. Well, I have been through McD drive thru twice before this and so, I guess the staff there does not feel surprise to see me anymore. The very first time when i rode my trishaw into McD drive thru, some tourist actually took pictures of us.

Hitch Hiker!

On Thursday (16th April 09) during my trishaw training at the usual AMJ Highway, someone at the opposite direction stopped and asked if I could give him a short ride. Hitchhike a trishaw? YES, indeed. Ha! Ha! Never heard of, right!

Anyway, he told me that his car has run out of petrol and he’s staying not far away (about 1km), so I asked him to hop in and he left his wife in the car. Trishaw man came to the rescue!  Well, his name was Encik Azan from Kampong Bukit Nibong. He wanted to go home and to take his motor cycle and buy petrol. By the way, Kampong Paya Dalam was where I met him.

Then on the same day itself, on my way home and as I was having a 5-minutes water break on the Sg Duyung bridge suddenly an old “Pakcik’ riding on a motorcycle stopped and took a long look at my trishaw. He then asked me if the trishaw belongs to me, how and where I got it from? I told him that I bought the trishaw from a friend’s father, who then bought it from someone else.

Journey Mapping

Last Monday (13th April) Ah Seng and I took a drive (by car) on our planned journey routes. We wanted to see the terrain, the condition and the surrounding, so we could have a better understanding and idea of what we will be facing on the actual day and to enable us to have a better planning.

Star Attractions!

Last Saturday, on 11th April 2009, SPCA Melaka  extended a special invitation to my "trishaw" as a honorable guest to a campaign called  "A Better Tomorrow Starts With Us" specially hosted by Dataran Pahlawan Megamall, Malacca.

That was the very first time any trishaw has been allowed into a shopping mall in Malacca. On the night before, I was informed that I should be at the main entrance by 9:45 am and the security guards would let me in. Unfortunately, when I arrived they were shocked and amazed when I told them that I would be taking my trishaw into the shopping mall for the SPCA exhibition. Luckily , Vincent came and 'rescued' and cleared things up.

My trishaw was the star attraction on the day. She attracted so many shoppers from all over the world to come and visit the SPCA Melaka stall. Proud of her!

THE JOURNEY: A short summary

This is the route that I will be taking, the coastal way and where terrain is less hilly. Along my journey, I am going to write something about these small towns and hopefully I can help to promote them. Ever since the completion of the North South Expressway in 1994, less and less people have been using the coastal routes.

To me, this whole journey itself is not to hit bang, bang, bang from one town to another and reach Penang as soon as possible and then return home. Well, how far and how fast can I go anyway!!! HA! HA! HA! I want to see, visit and learn more about places in Malaysia. Honestly, I have been to more places outside of Malaysia compared to our own homeland because I was away from home for some time.

A Tribute to the late Tan Sri Rafie Mahat

Sometime in life, no matter how small or simple one’s contribution, at your least expected … those moment will follow and remain with you for the rest of our lives.

During my school days (the best moment of my life), I have been very active in sports, I represented my house team, as well as my school and Malacca state. For that reason, I was nominated for school “Sportsman of the year” in 1988, but only came second behind Minarwan Nawawi, who represented Malaysia in hoki. Well, to cut it short, I was in Malacca High School from 1982 - 1988.

Basically, my personal opinion about the late Tan Sri Rafie Mahat, (our school head master from 1985-1990) is a man that will treat everyone equally no matter who you are and he will have time for everybody, no matter how busy he is. In that manner, I believed he gained all the school teachers and staff respect and for sure, all students as well. Indeed a great man, he was.

My Pit Crew

My Pit Crew: Mr. Ng Chong Lin (left) and Mr. Tee Sim (from Hin Yap Trading Co).

I am so glad I found them. Mr. Ng who runs this bicycle workshop in Ujong Pasir has been in the business for more than 40 years. Both him and Mr. Tee have vast experience in bicycle maintenance and repair. Few have asked me how I kept my trishaw in good working condition. Well, here’s your answer.

Apart from the normal check-up which I do it myself, I will send my trishaw to these gentlemen for monthly services (due to the many number of trips I made). They insist of doing it for me for free of charge unless there is something major to be changed. Guess I am afraid to get stuck along the highway while on training, where there is no shop, only a few food and fruit stalls. I’m usually armed with a bicycle pump, a spare tyre and tube plus some tools during training.
